Hi, I’m Steve Von Waldner, founder of The Rodfather.
I grew up as a “river rat” exploring the rivers, creeks, marshes, and beaches around Savannah and the South Carolina Lowcountry. Fishing has been part of my life for as long as I can remember, and there’s still nothing I’d rather do than spend a day on the beach with a fishing rod in my hand.
After a 28-year career with Michelin North America, my wife and I returned home to the Lowcountry. While working part-time in Guest Services at Sea Pines Resort, I was asked the same question almost every day:
“How can we go fishing?”
I would explain what kind of rod and reel they needed, what bait to buy, what tackle worked best, where to shop, and where to fish. Then it hit me—families were spending hours driving around, shopping, and trying to figure everything out. By the time they were ready to fish, they had spent more time preparing than actually enjoying the beach.
That’s why I started The Rodfather.
Our goal is simple: spend less time shopping and more time fishing. We provide quality surf fishing equipment, local knowledge, and friendly advice so you can walk onto the beach ready to make memories.
